Sligo Tri on the podium in Spiddal

The race was run off in terrible conditions with the swimming leg being shortened (Olympic only) and condensed to the harbour area with a long run back to transition. The cycle was in gaelforce winds with driving rain and the run was best described as confusing with all the competitors and loads of heats on a 1.2 mile circuit.

In the sprint race there was some great performances from some of our newer members who chose a race/day they might want to forget. It gets easier than today. Well done to Eanna sean Machale, John Dolan, Kara Davey, Thersea Killgallon, Bernie O Connor on their great performances.

All in all it was a great day for the club and particularly for all the sprint competitors as the conditions and course was cruel. If you can finish a triathlon today you will all finish any triathlon any day.

Well done to Cecillia on a fine 2nd place in the Ladies Olympic race in spiddal. Hopefully this is the start of a good few podiums over the Summer. She had the fastest swim split and was only passed during the latter stages of the runs.

In the men's Olympic distance Sligo tri had 3 members in the top ten. Colm was first of the club members out of the water and off the bike and was closely followed by Gary Higgins. Both in the top five. Gary and Brain had super running legs with Gary posting one of the fastest splits for 10k @ 35mins. Gary just ran out of road and was unlucky not get on the podium. Brian ran just under 38 mins for a fine seventh place, with colm down in 10th place

Best way to explain the race was that it was run by an overpriced Raynair. The race was not a patch on some of the better club races being run around the country, however, the cost was the same. We should vote with our feet support good quality club races

Looks good for sligo tri club for the summer. Hopefully we are building towards some good results. Well done every one.

Full results on Chipit- (Eamon mc Andrew running has not collapsed since the birth of twins).
