Sunday Run Training

If anyone fancies running on a Sunday morning please contact David Downs. Some club members usually run at 8.30 or 9 a.m on Sunday mornings. Some of the group are training for Stockholm and Cork City marathons so the run is a long slow one. 9 -9.30 min miling to build endurance into the legs with a small bit of speedwork at the end ie 1 min quick 1 min slow.So if anybody wants to join in they can. You can opt out at any stage during the run also if it doesn't suit you for whatever reason to do a long session. Contact David on 087 2274230 on a Saturday evening as the venue is changed every week for variety. As the mornings get brighter the group will go earlier.

TURBO TRAINING ++

The wheels are in motion for a turbo trainer/core strength+body conditioning training session and we are looking for names of members who are interested in taking part.
The course will run over 10 weeks, starting on Thursday 4th Feburary from 7pm-8.30pm and finish on April 8th (after easter bank holiday). The venue is the Carraroe Community hall on the old Dublin road.
The session will consist of one hour structured bike training led by Colm Casey followed by 30 minutes of core conditioning exercise led by Sean Flannery.
For those of you who aren't familiar with turbo training. It is basically a mechanical stationary cycle trainer onto which you place your bike. It is ideal for this time of year as it gives you the opportunity to train and improve fitness and specific bike skills at this time of year where it is challenging to get quality bike time on the road.
There is a possibility of the club getting a small number of turbo trainers to rent for the course but these will be on a first come first served basis.
Can interested members email ASAP to book their place and state if they have their own turbo trainer or if they will need to rent one of the clubs.
The cost for the 10 weeks will be 35euro approx for turbo trainer owners and 50euro if you use one of the clubs. We would appreciate payment for the session in advance or on the first night to cover costs of hall rental etc.
To reserve your place email sligocitytriathlon@gmail.com.

***INFO EVENING REMINDER***

For anyone who is visiting the blog having caught Sligo City Triathlon Club's swim officer Shane O'Doherty on Ocean FM's 'The Final Whistle' show and is interested in giving the sport a try; there will be an information evening in the meeting room of Connoly's bar, Markevicz St., Sligo tomorrow (Mon 11th) at 8pm.

Most races hold seperate age group categories (usually in 5yr bands) which are as competitive as any. Sligo is the ideal location for multisport activity with miles of forest tracks and acres of clean beaches.

Sligo City Triathlon Club runs year round training and hosts a number of events -if you ever fancied a crack at completing a triathlon the info. evening tomorrow night would be a good place to start...

Club Cycle Training Weekend

A cycling training weekend will take place the weekend of the 16th/17th of January. The weekend is for all categories of cyclists/Triathletes and the coaching weekend will cater for everyone. We are organising this for the club so please everyone support. We have a number of coaches lined up for the weekend and we are aiming particularly for the inexperienced riders from the both cycling clubs and triathlon clubs. The saturday training will be given by Padraig Marrey (Ireland's highest qualified cycling coach). The emphasis of the day will be on cycling, group riding, bikes skills, specific time trailing for triathlon and general bike fitness. Padraig will also give all participants a triathlon training programme for the next 12 weeks. Padraigh also participates in triathlons regularly and has vast experience in working with top level cyclists and triathletes including our own Mark Scanlon. Padraig will be assisted by Mary Mulcrone (Coach). The format of the day will be both practical and class room based workshops.

Sunday's coaching will be given by Jay Daley where the emphasis will be on nutrition and strength training. Again it will be triathlon and cycling specific. The day will include group training and emphasising what we were doing on the Saturday. Advice will be given on bike positioning.

Due to the inclement weather we will be watching the forecast carefully. The weekend will definitely be going ahead and if the roads are still bad or if its too wet all the practical sessions will take place indoors on turbo trainers. A number of spares have been sourced but let the club cycle officer (mail adress below) know if you can bring your own.

The cost of the weekend will be €50-60 and the venue will be either the mercy gym in Sligo or the teeling centre in Colloney. For more information or to book a place contact: casey.colm@gmail.com or 0876811197

2010 CLUB SWIM TRAINING

Sligo City Triathlon Club swim training sessions will be starting again shortly.
The sessions are going into their second year and take place in the Sligo Regional Sports Complex Pool on Tuesday (10pm) and Friday (7pm) evenings.

The sessions are structured in approach with both technique and fitness drills incorporated, all overseen by club swimming coaches. Stroke analysis by underwater video forms part of the sessions where swimmers strokes are analysed with the club coaches at regular intervals. The sessions build towards the triathlon summer season with weekly swims in Rosses Point beginning in May.

All levels of swimmers are welcome, we’ve had swimmers struggling to do ten lengths of the pool attend the sessions and go on to complete Olympic distance triathlons within a year.

The term lasts eight weeks. Places are very limited so please get in touch to reserve your place, anyone interested who has not booked a place should contact sligocitytriathlon@gmail.com.

The club information evening takes place next Monday, the 11th January in the meeting room of Connollys Bar in Sligo Town.
