Sea Swimming Begins - 7th May

Sea swimming is going to begin on Friday 7th May at Rosses Point Beach.

Weekly club meet-ups will be at 6:30pm Weds and 6:30pm Friday.

We'd ask club members not to form smaller groups going out early/late on Weds/Fri and to stick to the time above, safety in numbers, better training etc.

If people are swimming other days to above, never swim alone, more safety info on http://www.iws.ie/index.html

We will all meet up at 6:00pm at the "beachery" for the first session. This is the old shed type building just up from the main car park. Will do a very quick (10min)run through on the club guidelines for open water training which everyone needs to attend. We'll aim to be suited up and in the water for 6:30pm.

We will break off into three groups.

Advanced group will be for experienced swimmers who've done lots of tri's and are trying to shave some time off their swim. They will go over the 2nd beach and swim across approx 1km depending on conditions.

Intermediate group will be made up of strong pool swimmers with limited or no open water experience, they will be swimming a shorter distance on the first beach. Approx 500m to start with. Club coaches will be on the first beach to help the intermediates during the session.

The beginners will be made up of people who can swim in the pool but are only starting into open water swimming. We're doing three introductary sessions which are aimed at complete novices to open water swimming. If you're nervous about getting into the sea then these are for you, we will have experienced club members easing you into the water with the sessions taking a structured format. The second and third intro sessions will be on Weds 12th May 6:30pm and Fri 14th May again at 6:30pm.

We will ensure no one gets left behind.

Looking forward to seeing you all there
